Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a set of skills that help us better perceive, understand and manage emotions in ourselves and in others. Collectively they help us make intelligent responses to, and use of, emotions and help determine success in work and in life.
The skills of emotional intelligence helps us make more informed and better decisions. They can help us interact, communicate, collaborate more effectively with people, and ultimately, they can help us perform to get to where we want to be.
Decisions, Behavior and Performance
Emotional Intelligence (EI) plays an important role in the decisions we make. Internal and external triggers impact our neurotransmitters that impacts our state of trust or stress which in turn drives our decisions. It is very important to understand and be aware of our emotions, while making decisions.
Our behavior is driven by our habits and perceptions and both can be recognized and regulated by our emotions. How we behave as a leader, a member of any team or as a employee in our workplace can make an impact on our and the team's performance. It is important to recognize this as we strive towards our goals.

Genos Model of Emotionally Intelligent Competencies
Emotional Intelligent competencies that Genos lays out, adds two more facets to Goleman's definition. These are:
- Self-Awareness is about being aware of the behavior you demonstrate, your strengths and limitations, and the impact you have on others.
- Awareness Of Others is about noticing and acknowledging others, ensuring others feel valued and adjusting one’s own style to best fit with others.
- Authenticity is about openly and effectively expressing oneself, honouring commitments and encouraging this behavior in others.
- Emotional Reasoning is about using the information in feelings (from oneself and others) and combining it with other facts and information when decision-making.
- Self-Management is about managing one’s own mood and emotions; time and behaviour; and continuously improving oneself.
- Inspiring Performance is about facilitating high performance in others through problem solving, promoting, recognising and supporting others’ work

Can Emotional Intelligence be assessed?
Every individual has two aspects of Emotional Intelligence (EI) - how important they think it is, and how they show up (demonstrate it). Assessing and understanding the significant of EI helps us both in our leadership journey and workplace performance. EI is categorized into 6 different but interdependent competencies and these are 3 ways to assess it
Self Assessment
This assesses how we see the importance of 6 different EI skills and how we demonstrate it.
180 Assessment
This assesses how peers and seniors view our demonstration of these competencies.
360 Assessment
As the name suggests this is a 360 view of our competency demonstration.
